Where to Celebrate Spring in Philly

After a long and cold winter, spring is just about upon us! This season more than ever, we all could use some flowers, greenery and sunshine. While it may take a few weeks for spring to have truly sprung, now is the perfect time to break your sneakers back in and take in the spring sights, sounds and smells in Philly.

There are plenty of green spaces to do just that around your Royal Athena apartment, including Wissahickon Valley Park. Located just across the river in nearby Roxborough, the park is the city’s second-largest, featuring more than 1,800 acres.

No matter what kind of spring excursion you’re looking for, you can find it at Wissahickon. Exercise enthusiasts flock to the park’s 50 miles of trails; they feature varying terrains and always something new to look at on your run or walk, so you can keep coming back for more for a new experience each time. Wissahickon is also popular with bicyclists, who can fly up and down the hilly trails for an exciting and heart-pounding workout.

If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, a walk by the Wissahickon Creek is a great way to welcome spring. Bring along some binoculars to spot some of the dozens of bird species that call the park home. Even just on one walk, you can experience all the different dimensions of the park: forest, meadows, marshes and much more. While you’re exploring, keep an eye out for the many historic bridges and houses that are nestled within the park, as well as centuries-old statues.

We’ve all been cooped up this winter, so now is the time to welcome back warmer weather and all the possibilities of spring, all safely and without traveling too far from your Royal Athena apartment.
