Cool Off and Chill Out at This Local Ice Cream Shoppe

The dog days of summer are here! Summer 2020 is shaping up to be a bit different than most, with vacation spots closed and restrictions on many of our favorite summer hangouts. If you find yourself hanging around your Royal Athena apartment looking for a way to beat the heat while still getting out and about for some much-needed change of scenery, take it back to childhood with a trip out for ice cream.

The family-owned shop, less than 10 minutes from your Royal Athena apartment in nearby Narberth, serves up Bassett’s Ice Cream, also a family-owned company, based right here in Philadelphia for generations. That family feel is on display at the quaint shop, which has been open for take-out window service throughout the pandemic.

The menu features cups, cones, sundaes, old-fashioned ice cream floats, milkshakes and handcrafted cakes, cookies and brownies. On the ice cream side, choose from one (or more!) of the two-dozen flavors, which include everything from the chocolate and vanilla standards to Milky Way, peach and pomegranate blueberry chunk. The toppings are just as diverse—all of your favorite candies, syrups, fruits and nuts. There’s just as much variety with the shakes, which include ingredients like cinnamon sugar, bananas, caramel, marshmallow, peanut butter and, of course, lots of ice cream! The shop also offers non-dairy ice cream and other vegan-friendly options.

As a plus, Village Treats is located right in the heart of downtown Narberth, so you can grab your dessert and stroll along Haverford Avenue to sidewalk shop, people watch or just get a little taste of the outdoors!

It’s tempting to hide out in the air conditioning of your Royal Athena apartment, but with all the tasty temptations that Philly and the Main Line offer, chilling out can also mean getting out and enjoying the exciting offerings of our neighborhood.
