Put a New Spin on Date Night this Valentine’s Day

Chocolate, flowers and a movie are all staples of Valentine’s Day. But with so much exciting entertainment abounding right near your Royal Athena apartment, why not change up your Valentine’s Day date this year?

While there are plenty of hot spots for dinner or drinks right near home, getting out and active is a unique way to bond with your special someone, all while seeing the sights. One such spot to do that is Wissahickon Valley Park, one of the largest and oldest parks in the region, which attracts hikers, bikers, runners, walkers and nature lovers all throughout the year, including in chilly February.

The park is located right across the river from your Royal Athena apartment, about a half-mile walk. There are more than 2,000 acres of parkland in the Wissahickon, including more than 50 miles of trails. For those looking for a heart-pounding date day, bring along the bike and go racing through the steep and winding bicycle trails. Or if you’re more inclined to a leisurely stroll hand in hand, pack a pair of binoculars to see if you can spot the many species of wildlife that call the park home. Along the way, take in dozens of historic mansions, covered bridges and centuries-old statues that all tell the tale of the storied park.

Nestled in the heart of the park is Valley Green Inn, an historic tavern that serves up upscale American fare all day (and if you hold off on your date until Sunday, you can catch brunch!), as well as offers a full bar. If you need a little pick-me-up halfway through your hike or bike ride, stop off at Valley Green to rest and refill.

So lace up your sneakers, grab some gloves and your sweetheart and celebrate the holiday in a new way this year.
