Where to See Holiday Lights in Philly

December 10th, 2019
Living in Philly, you’re likely accustomed to big city lights—as your Royal Athena apartment is right near all of the action of one of the nation’s most bustling cities. But when the holidays arrive, the usual city lights turn red, green and all shades of the holidays, as Philly welcomes the season to the city. The scores of holiday light displays in the region range from a more than century old light show at nearby Macy’s to a full block of holiday cheer in South Philly—and everything in between, providing lots of opportunities to take in the wonder of the holiday season, make some eye-catching memories and even establish some new holiday traditions.
This year, be one of the first to experience LumiNature, a brand-new light show debuting at the Philadelphia Zoo, just four miles from your Royal Athena apartment. An astounding 600,000 holiday lights are strung throughout trees, exhibits and just about every other surface you can think of at the historic zoo. In keeping with the theme of the zoo, LumiNature brings the animals to life, with dazzling depictions of flamingoes, peacocks, tigers and many more among the dozen dozen different multimedia displays.
The show has been a long time coming—with planning in the works for several years and a more than $3.5 million investment making LumiNature possible. While the light show itself is enticing enough, the event also features live performers, holiday foods, hot chocolate and warmed alcoholic drinks to help guests add even more to their experience. LumiNature is a timed event, so you have to purchase tickets ahead of time and make sure to be on premises at your allotted time slot—then sit back and prepare to be dazzled!
Happy holidays!
