See Why Fairmount Park is LIT This Halloween

There are lots of hauntingly good Halloween traditions here in Philly: From haunted tours of the city’s historic district to Terror Behind the Walls at Eastern State Penitentiary, the city’s record as one of the most historic locales in the country means it’s a target for Halloween haunts as well. Another major Philly site, right near your Royal Athena apartment, takes advantage of its prime spot in the heart of Philly to offer locals another illuminating way to enjoy this Halloween season.

The Glow returns to Fairmount Park from Oct. 5 to Nov. 3. If you didn’t catch the event’s first couple years in Philly, don’t miss out on the 2019 series, which promises to be bigger and better than ever! And, since it’s all just three miles from your Royal Athena apartment, you don’t have to travel far to get your Halloween haunts in!

Artistry abounds at The Glow, which is a one-third mile trail through the park that features more than 5,000 hand-carved jack-o-lanterns, all lit up for the holiday. And these aren’t your run-of-the-mill pumpkins you carved when you were a kid! From single carvings to elaborate, larger-than-life displays, each pumpkin included has been painstakingly (and impressively!) crafted by expert artists. See carvings of your favorite celebrities, movie scenes, current events and, of course, tributes to our beloved Philly sports teams!

The Glow is self-paced so you and your crew can marvel at the creations, take tons of selfies and enjoy the crisp autumn air as you stroll. Before you set off on the path, or when you return, grab some gourmet bites from food trucks lining the entrance, or grab a pumpkin beer or spiced wine from the beer garden.

While The Glow isn’t too heavy on the spooky stuff, it is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit (and to appreciate some eye-opening art!) all without straying too far from your Royal Athena apartment.
