Celebrate Halloween with West Laurel Hills Cemetery

If you’re looking for an excuse to dress in costume or to give back to the community, there are plenty of events centered around West Laurel Hills Cemetery. So get out of your Royal Athena apartment and prepare for a spooktacular good time this Halloween.

Dead of Night: Stories of the Dearly Departed and How They Died — The fall season is never complete without at least one hayride. Luckily the Lower Merion Conservancy has that covered on Oct. 11. The conservancy will take you behind the gravestone as you learn about the “dearly departed” buried beneath West Laurel Hills Cemetery. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.

RUN4URLIFE 5K — The event may be called RUN4URLIFE but MANNA’s Oct. 20 5K run is far from frightening. The morning kicks off with the Trick or Treat Kids Dash and continues with a timed 5K through the cemetery. Be sure to arrive in costume, as the best-dressed will receive an award alongside the top male and female runners. Stick around for an after party featuring snacks, giveaways and awards. All proceeds benefit MANNA, an organization that provides meals to those battling life-threatening illnesses. The event begins with check-in at 8 a.m. and the run beginning at 9 a.m. For more information and to register, click here.

Gravediggers’ Ball — Support the ongoing public accessibility and preservation of the West Laurel Hills Cemetery by attending a fabulous masquerade ball. The annual Gravediggers’ Ball raises funds for the Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery while letting you dress to the nines. Join in the fun 7 p.m.-12 a.m. Oct. 26 at the Masonic Temple, about a 20-minute drive from Royal Athena. For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
